What strategies have you and your group used to ensure that all members are actively contributing to group assignments?

Prompt Response: My group ensures that all of us are actively contributing to group assignment by splitting up the work. We communicate to each other what each of us are doing. If one of us is slacking off, we hold them accountable and help get them back on track. Splitting up tasks and constantly checking in with each other has helped us a lot.  Summary: In class we created the prompt page and the source identification document. Reflection: Through creating the prompt page, it prepares the reader to understand and evaluate the sources.

Prompt: What challenges did your group face while selecting and analyzing sources, and how did you overcome them? Be specific about how your group communicated and worked through disagreements.

Prompt Response: While selecting and analyzing sources, my group had a challenge with selecting the best source to use. Sometimes we thought two of our group member's source was good. To overcome this slight hurdle, we thought about which one could excellently support the research question. We worked through disagreements as a group pretty easily. We were hearing each other out and communicating effectively.  Summary: In class we finished gathering sources and selecting evidence.  Reflection: Through selecting good evidence from my sources, supporting my claim for my research paper will be easier.

Prompt: Reflect on your research topic and identify the most compelling issue connected to it. Clearly explain what the issue is and discuss why you find it particularly interesting or important. Support your response with specific details from your research.

Prompt Response: The most compelling issue connected to the war on terrorism is how hypocritical the counter terrorism strategies are. They are fighting against an act of violence with violence. Through direct military spending, the war on terrorism has costed over a trillion dollars by 2017. I find this particularly interesting because it shows how one note these strategies have been post-9/11. Funding the ongoing conflict between the U.S. and the Middle East is counterproductive. Killing our way through terrorism will just keep the campaign going in circles.    Summary: In class we went through our sources and chose the best 7 sources in our group. Reflection: Through picking the best sources, I will have better evidence, which makes writing my research paper easier.

Prompt: How has completing the annotated bibliography changed or clarified your understanding of your research topic? Discuss how your sources connect to one another and how they are shaping your argument moving forward.

Prompt Response: By creating a annotated bibliography, it clarified my understanding of the war on terrorism. It had me evaluating the contents, the credibility, and accuracy of the sources. All of my sources covered the hypocrisies of the counter terrorism strategies and the U.S. and the Middle East conflict. Shaping my argument to go towards the direct that counter terrorism strategies have been ineffective since 2001. The sources I chose all provide evidence to back up this argument. Summary: In class we finished creating our annotated bibliography.  Reflection: Through creating an annotated bibliography, I have a better understanding of the effectiveness of the counter terrorism strategies.

Prompt: Which part of the annotated bibliography (summary, reflection, or evaluation) was the most challenging for you, and why? Explain how that challenge helped you grow as a researcher and how it will help you when writing your research paper.

Prompt Response: The most challenging part of the annotated bibliography was the summary. I really had to think about the question: "If someone had no idea what this source was about, how would you summarize it to them?" Having to make a concise rundown of the main points in a source is hard. Despite this challenge, it helps me grow to be a better researcher.  By pushing me to interpret information on my own. Further helping me when I write my research paper and I have to back up the evidence.  Summary: In class we started working on our annotated bibliography. Reflection: Through creating an annotated bibliography, I can use this experience in my future learning.

Prompt: As you gathered sources, you were expected to find multiple perspectives on your topic. What differences did you notice between your sources? Explain how these differences helped you better understand the complexity of your issue.

Prompt Response: When gathering my sources, there were quite some differences between them. I found that some sources discussed about the success of the counter-terrorism policies. While others discussed the downfall of the war on terrorism or questioned the policies. These differences helped me understand how nuanced the discussion of the war on terrorism is. It is a complex issue with interesting viewpoints. Summary: In class we finished gathering sources for our research paper. Reflection: Through gathering sources, I learned how complex the war on terrorism discussion is.

Prompt: Think about your experience using GALILEO to find sources. How was this different from how you have searched for information in the past? Explain how using specific search strategies and evaluating sources impacted the quality of what you found.

Prompt Response: My experience of using GALILEO to find sources is different from how I have searched for information in the past by a lot of metrics. Using specific search terms has produced higher quality sources. Compared to using generic wording to find sources. Evaluating my sources through an intricate process has also produced higher quality sources. Rather than basic googling and clicking on the first 2 articles I see. GALILEO makes the research process a whole lot more precise.  Summary: In class we started to gather sources for our research paper.  Reflection: Through using GALILEO, my research process is more precise.

Prompt: Political cartoons often use exaggeration and symbolism to make a point, and they can also serve as important visual sources for analysis. What is being criticized in this image? What does this source suggest about the issue, and what does the cartoonist want the audience to question or reconsider?

Image
Prompt Response: Trump is being criticized in this political cartoon. It suggests the hypocrisy of Trump speaking on the Iran Israel War while there is a bigger elephant in the room. There is a proposal of a second Big Beautiful Bill that will fund ICE and deportations. The cartoonist wants the audience to question Trump's ethics. Also his deflection.  Summary: In class we did the Prompt Analysis Practice on Writable. Reflection: Through practicing prompt analysis I will be able to adapt that into the real one for the Research Paper.

Prompt: Think about how you have searched for information in the past compared to what you practiced today. How is creating specific search phrases different from just “Googling” a topic? Explain how this strategy will improve the quality of your research.

Prompt Response: Creating specific search phrases heavily differs from just "Googling" a topic. When using specific terms to search for a topic, it filters out irrelevant information. General "Googling" is a broader approach to researching. Specific search phrases improve the quality of my research by allowing me to dictate the exact wording, structure, and the vital key terms. Resulting in higher quality results.  Summary: In class we completed the CommonLit: Hollywood Dreams of Wealth, Youth, and Beauty. Reflection: Through doing this CommonLit, I really reflected on how Hollywood gives America a false portrayal and how that impacts people from overseas immigrating into the country.

Prompt: Your research question is designed to explore a complex issue. What makes this topic difficult to answer or solve? Identify at least two different perspectives or factors related to your topic and explain why understanding multiple viewpoints is important.

Prompt Response: My group's Research topic is the war on terrorism. Our research question is 'How effective have global counter-terrorism strategies been since 2001?' This topic is difficult to answer because it is highly political and subjective. Some people are here for terrorism and think it is beneficial. There are also other people who are against it and the harm it causes. Understanding both sides is important because it widens my view point on the topic.   Summary: In class we learned the 7 steps of the Research Database and came up with 10 search phrases with our group. Reflection: I learned that strong search terms should be specific.

Prompt: Reflect on your past experiences with research in school. What challenges have you faced when working independently or in a group, and how did you handle them? Explain how those experiences will influence the way you approach this current research project.

Prompt Response: I have faced a couple of challenges while researching in school. Specifically within groups, I have had the problem of me doing all the research. I have worked with many people who have not pulled their weight when gathering research. Instead of being a sitting duck, I call out my group members in a respectful manner. I don't let others walk over me.  Summary: In class we played a general knowledge kahoot and did a group brainstorming on our topic for our research papers.  Reflection: I learned that the process of gathering research is a skill that will be utilized throughout my higher education.

Prompt: If you could plan the perfect spring break with no limitation, money, time, or responsibilities—what would it look like? Where would you go, who would you bring, and what would you do?

Prompt Response: If I had all the freedom to plan the perfect spring break, I would travel to London then to Paris. I would go on this trip to see my friend who lives in England. She'd take me all the best spots there. After London, me and her would fly to Paris and have the best girls trip. We would visit all the attractions and food spots. It would be a blast.  Summary: In class we completed the "Identifying Main Ideas and Central Idea with "Making college matter" assignment on CommonLit. Reflection: I learned that students who develop relationships with others who are different from them show more intellectual and social growth than others in college.

Prompt: McCandless set out to live independently in the wilderness, but his death reveals the harsh reality of nature and survival. In your blog post, analyze how his desire for independence contributed to his death. Then, connect this idea to your own life by explaining a time when you wanted complete independence or control over a situation. Did things go as planned, or did you face unexpected challenges?

Prompt Response: Chris's desire for independence was one of the driving factors that led to his tragic fate. Him wanting to satisfy himself in showing that he could live off the land alone was possibly his biggest mistake. If he didn't neglect help from others, maybe he'd still be alive to tell his adventures. In the end though, his naivety of the wilderness and his need for ultra independence left him with no luck. A time when I wanted control over a situation was when my family and I were looking at houses to move into. I had plans to have my own room, but due to unexpected circumstances, we had to downgrade to an apartment. I was so upset that I wasn't going to get my own space, but I had to face the reality of our money situation.  Summary: In class we finished the book and film adaptation of Into the Wild. Reflection: Through finishing the book and film adaptation of Into the Wild, I learned that McCandless's starvation was caused by him eating a wild potato se...
